Gymnastics is a great activity to start at any age!
We offer classes for children 8 weeks-17.
At Gemstone, children of all ages, from babies to older kids, can experience the incredible benefits of gymnastics. Picture your child building agility, strength, and self-confidence while having fun and learning new skills!
Your child will thrive in our classes, where each lesson is carefully tailored to their age group, promoting physical, social, and emotional growth. And if you've heard that gymnasts must start young—don’t worry, that’s just a myth! Gymnastics offers incredible benefits at any age.
YES! At Gemstone, classes are thoughtfully designed to support the growth of every child, regardless of ability.
Your highly trained coaches use a teaching method called skill progressions, breaking down each skill into small, achievable steps. This approach not only ensures that your child learns in a safe, confidence-boosting environment, but also allows them to master each step before putting it all together to achieve new skills.
Your coaches are also trained to offer appropriate challenges, ensuring that every child is encouraged at the right level to continue growing.
Children don't need to have flexibility, balance, or coordination before starting gymnastics—these are exactly the skills our classes at Gemstone will help your child develop!
Classes at Gemstone provide a well-rounded physical workout that helps your child develop a wide range of essential physical skills. Participation in gymnastics develops overall athleticism, helping your child build the essential skills needed to excel not only in gymnastics, but in any other sport they choose!
Gymnastics requires children to synchronize movements between different parts of the body, improving their overall coordination. Skills like jumping, flipping, and balancing require children to be aware of how their body moves through space, enhancing both gross and fine motor skills.
Whether it’s walking on a balance beam or executing controlled movements during floor routines, gymnastics focuses heavily on balance. This helps children gain greater control over their bodies, improving posture and stability, which is useful in many other physical activities.
Stretching and using equipment like the balance beam and floor promote flexibility, which improves a child's range of motion, prevents stiffness, and reduces injury risk during all physical activities.
In short, gymnastics helps children develop a strong, flexible, and coordinated body while promoting lifelong physical health and fitness.
Yes, gymnastics is safe for young children when taught by trained coaches. Gemstone coaches are highly trained in safe spotting, injury prevention, child development, skill progressions, and positive coaching techniques.
At Gemstone, the safety of your child is our top priority. All of our coaches undergo thorough background checks, including FBI fingerprinting and the same Livescan background check required for teachers, as well as the Clearchecks system, which covers San Diego County and multiple states.
Our classes are carefully designed to teach skills gradually, using proper techniques and safety equipment, ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment. We take pride in providing a safe space for your child at Gemstone!
Children ages 0-5 are grouped by age, with coaches advancing them to the next level as they grow. In our Gem Bears class for 4-5 year-olds, there's an option to move into the 4/5 Level 2 class based on skill. Each class is designed to support age-appropriate social, emotional, and physical development.
For children aged 5.5 and up, advancement is based on skill mastery. Once your child has completed all the skills on their star chart, their coach will graduate them to the next level.
All classes and all ages have an electronic star chart that gets updated once per month with their progress in class! You will find this in your Parent Portal. Here’s a video on how to access your chart.
Your coach tracks your child's progress in every class! Each Gemstone class has a star chart listing all the skills your child will learn. Progress is updated monthly and can be viewed in your Parent Portal. When it's time to check the chart, your child will receive a special sticker, and you'll get an email—be sure you're on our email list!
If you’re aged 0-5, your coach will graduate you to the next class as you reach the appropriate age.
If you’re 5.5 & up, your coach will graduate you to the next level when you master all of the skills on your star chart!
We're committed to meeting your child where they are as they adjust to a new environment. Gemstone coaches are highly trained in both child development and positive coaching methods. We recognize that every child learns differently, and some may need time to feel comfortable before fully participating. That’s completely normal and expected!
With Gemstone coaches, your child will feel supported, encouraged, and empowered. One tip we like to suggest is to arrive 10 minutes before your very first class-this way your child can meet their new teacher, and get a lay of the land before jumping in!
Yes! Whether your child does gymnastics purely for fun, or if they aspire to compete, we have an appropriate and supportive space for all kids.
Your child will thrive in our recreational classes, where they can enjoy gymnastics for fun, build strength, make new friends, and boost their confidence. Let them discover the joy of movement while developing skills that last a lifetime!
Your child will thrive on the competitive team if they love learning routines, performing for an audience, and earning ribbons and medals in the community! With our Women’s Artistic Team, gymnasts compete on vault, bars, beam, and floor exercise. Meanwhile, our Performance Team combines gymnastics, dance, and acrobatics into a captivating group routine set to music, showcasing their talents at community events and parades. Join us and watch your child shine!
